BreedingPerformance orientated Dorpers

The majority of mating is done through Laparoscopic AI, but we also flush our top ewes and strive for a maximum amount of embryo lambs per year.

A thorough record for each ewe is kept, as each one is mated individually. The Dorper is a very fertile sheep and can be mated at any time of the year. They have a long breeding season and have excellent mothering qualities.

Mating practices

  1. Natural Mating
  2. Laparoscopic Artificial Insemination
  3. Embryo flushing and Transfer

We are committed to breeding animals that are very productive in our climate with high fertility, muscle depth, lambing ease, size and good bone formation.

Characteristics such as hardiness and adaptability are of great importance to us as farmers.

Components are breeding rate, growth potential, survival and the quality of the animal.

As the Dorper is bred for its meat, we sell our Dorpers which have not been selected for our stud or breeding to an abattoir as they have a higher quality of meat. Dorpers are the most successful mutton sheep in the world. Dorpers are presently the leaders in the meat industry.

Since 1997, Dorpers have taken the prizes at the National Carcass competitions.
